⚡ Quick Answer

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps are advanced diabetes technologies that significantly improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Our endocrinologists specialize in CGM and insulin pump initiation, training, and optimization โ€” including automated insulin delivery (AID) systems โ€” and assist with insurance prior authorizations.

Technology-Driven Diabetes Care

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps have transformed diabetes management. Rather than relying on multiple daily finger sticks, CGMs provide a real-time view of glucose trends, helping patients and providers make faster, smarter treatment decisions.

Our endocrinologists have extensive experience initiating, optimizing, and troubleshooting all major CGM and insulin pump platforms. We review your device data at every visit and work with you to interpret the numbers โ€” not just react to them.

Insulin pump therapy (CSII) and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems take this further by continuously adjusting insulin delivery based on CGM readings. These technologies can significantly reduce A1c, minimize hypoglycemia, and improve quality of life โ€” but they require expert guidance to set up and maintain effectively.

We are proud to offer comprehensive CGM and pump management at both our Sugar Land and Memorial City locations.

Who Is a Candidate?

๐Ÿฉธ

Type 1 Diabetes

CGMs and insulin pumps are standard of care for most Type 1 patients โ€” we help with initiation, training, and ongoing optimization.

๐Ÿ’‰

Type 2 on Insulin

Many Type 2 patients on intensive insulin regimens benefit greatly from CGM-guided management and pump therapy.

๐Ÿ“‰

Frequent Hypoglycemia

CGMs alert patients to dropping glucose before symptoms occur, and AID systems can automatically suspend insulin to prevent lows.

๐ŸŽฏ

High A1c Despite Effort

If blood sugar control remains elusive despite medication adjustments, CGM data often reveals patterns that explain why.

๐Ÿคฐ

Pregnancy with Diabetes

CGM use during pregnancy (including gestational diabetes) provides the tight glucose control needed for healthy outcomes.

๐ŸŒ™

Nocturnal Hypoglycemia

CGMs and AID systems are especially valuable for patients who experience dangerous low blood sugar episodes overnight.

CGM & Pump Platforms We Support

๐Ÿ“ก Continuous Glucose Monitors

Dexcom G7 & G6, Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 & 3, Eversense CGM. We assist with prescription, insurance authorization, and device training.

โš™๏ธ Insulin Pumps

Omnipod 5, Tandem t:slim X2, Medtronic 780G, Beta Bionics iLet. We provide initiation, basal rate programming, and ongoing optimization.

๐Ÿค– Automated Insulin Delivery (AID)

Also called "closed loop" or "artificial pancreas" systems. These combine CGM and pump to automatically adjust insulin โ€” we specialize in AID initiation and fine-tuning.

๐Ÿ’ป Remote Data Review

We review Clarity, LibreView, and pump download reports between visits when needed โ€” allowing us to make adjustments without requiring an in-person appointment every time.

How We Initiate CGM or Pump Therapy

1

Evaluation & Device Selection

Your provider reviews your diabetes history, current regimen, lifestyle, and insurance to recommend the best CGM or pump system for you.

2

Insurance Prior Authorization

Our team handles prior authorization paperwork with your insurance. Many commercial plans and Medicare cover CGMs; pump coverage varies.

3

Device Training

We provide in-office training and connect you with manufacturer representatives and certified diabetes educators for hands-on device instruction.

4

Ongoing Optimization

At follow-up visits we download and review your device data, adjust settings, and address any technical or clinical issues.

CGM & Insulin Pump FAQ

Is a CGM covered by my insurance?

Continuous glucose monitors are now covered by most major commercial insurance plans and Medicare for patients using insulin. Coverage has expanded significantly in recent years. Our team handles prior authorization paperwork and assists with appeals when needed.

How do I get started with an insulin pump?

Getting started requires an evaluation visit to confirm you're a good candidate, a prescription, insurance prior authorization (which our team handles), device training, and initial basal rate programming. We guide you through every step and provide ongoing optimization at follow-up visits.

What is automated insulin delivery (AID)?

Automated insulin delivery โ€” also called "closed loop" or "artificial pancreas" โ€” combines a CGM and insulin pump to automatically adjust insulin based on real-time glucose readings. FDA-approved AID systems include Tandem Control-IQ, Omnipod 5, and Medtronic 780G. We specialize in AID initiation and fine-tuning.

Do I need Type 1 diabetes to use an insulin pump?

No. Insulin pumps have long been standard for Type 1 diabetes, but are also used in Type 2 patients on intensive insulin regimens โ€” especially those with frequent hypoglycemia or high glucose variability. Your provider will evaluate whether pump therapy is appropriate for your specific situation.

Can I have CGM follow-up by telemedicine?

Yes. CGM data reviews, insulin dose adjustments, and device troubleshooting are well-suited for telehealth visits. We use CGM manufacturer platforms such as Clarity and LibreView to review your sensor data remotely and make recommendations without requiring an in-person visit every time.
